We have lived in South Africa for 40 years, and we can safely say this is the best seafood restaurant we have ever visited.
The relaxed atmosphere with rustic tables on the sand makes for a very pleasant environment, well shaded and not overcrowded, even when packed out with patrons.
The owner and/or staff are on hand to explain the fresh intake of the day and make excellent recommendations based on one’s particular preferences. Refreshing to have the owner recommend the best and freshest, albeit not necessarily the most expensive on the day. Some unusual catches depending on your luck when you are there.
We had fresh oysters the size of a fist and exploding with taste. The fish combo was not in the slightest greasy with each different fish prepared to perfection.
On a different visit we chose the newly arrived fresh whole kob, which was grilled on the spot for us and was so tasty it had us sucking on the bones. The large prawns were also grilled to perfection and perfectly accompanied by the sides and sauces ordered.
On a third visit we enjoyed an enormous sole, exquisitely delicate and again cooked to its simplest perfection.
It is a bonus to be able to bring one’s own wine, allowing for best choice without the usual restaurant alcohol markup.
Now back home in Ireland, Freshline Fisheries will have us fondly reminiscing and longing to go back for years to come.
